Thought I would throw this one into the mix. This is about 1yr old but love it. This is my godson Charlie on a visit down from Auckland. Classic.

Looking hard for a time to fit in a holiday but can't see how with winter rapidly approaching so may as well plan my next series of shoots in between jobs.

One of the obstacles I face being a male is finding models to photograph. Yeah I have mates with teen sons and daughters who don't mind sitting for long periods in front of a camera while some old fart takes his time, never being satisfied with what he's trying to create but beyond that, its not gana happen. Scenario: 40yr old man wants young models to photograph!!! Yeah that's right, alarm bells start ringing at what the hell may be going on behind closed doors. Paranoia reigns supreme. I do understand the reasons behind the paranoia but its a shame humanity has been reduced to such levels of suspicion and mistrust. I saw a program about the paparazzi in the UK. One photographer was trying to get a shot of Lindsay Lohan from a play ground. GUY, CAMERA, PLAYGROUND??. Needless to say he was hauled off to the police station within 10 minutes. So with all that said its back to shoots with mates kids and images where the same faces make an appearance again and again. They are great to shoot as the following pics attest to.

Th above kind of have a fair bit of time placed in between placed in between them as far as when they were shot. Its really important to me to go back over projects and re-look at what I dd and how I did it. I find myself reloading old pics on the computer and re-hashing a fresh look. As ones skills grow and your eye changes, its good to have a measure of (hopefully) progress and direction.

Well there have been developments since my last blog. My job appears to be safe, for now anyway. Everyone where I work backed up those who were on the line and saved those under threat. I cant say I have ever experienced such a united stand by many for a few. Normally its a case of everyone looking after there own backside so it's amazing to see. All these developments have left me buggered. Man I need a holiday.

News today. I have managed to have two out of four prints excepted in the Canon National Photographic exhibition. Medals are awarded for winning print but they are not announced until next month so fingers crossed. That's the good news. The bad is the stress mounts as the recession bites into the national workforce with redundancy's announced at work. The photography dept seems to be the main target so by next week I may have alot more time on my hands. I have seen many times the craft of photography being undermined by the massive amount of point and shoot cameras that have flooded the market. The common perception is that anyone can take a picture so why use a pro. I have had many a potential Wedding client turn me down in favor of uncle Joe who has a nice camera ,so he will take the wedding photos to save a few dollars, only to have the bride come back a month later and regret her decision. The other problem is that if you have a nice camera, it must take great photos. The photographer seems to not feature in the thought process. So with the above in mind, its hardly surprising its the photographer is the target when things get tough. No wonder is so hard making a living as a freelancer.

The two images above are a part of my life series as mentioned in my previous blog. This will be an on going series with no end in sight so expect more from time to time. There will be no explanation to go with these two so feel free to come up with you own thoughts. Its what its all about so let rip with your opinions and comments.
Human life intrigues me. Its many complexities, the experiences we all share but in so many variations. I have begun an extended project designed to portray some of the highs and lows we all experience.

I do prefer the viewer to come to their own conclusion about an images meaning. Art is subjective so I like to promote that with my photography. But hey, this time why not share. The above image relates to the trials and tribulations of adolescence. The model is a teen who wears a wedding dress but holds a teddy. The domain of the adult in contrast to the child. Like two ocean tides colliding. Turbulence is usually the result as we can all attest to.

This one is similar in theme with maybe a peek at what happens when a troubled teen (tormented by the changing body) physically expresses when alone. The tendency to shut ones self away in the dark of the mind. Even though the light is there, the dark is where comfort lies. Some experiences during these years are harder than others so this may be seem by some to be at the extreme. I wouldn't be the first to over emphasise for effect in art or photography.

First Post.

Well here goes, my first post. PHOTOGRAPHY, a true love. The whole process of creating an image from the concept through to the completed image. What can be better!!

Each project is a journey. The processes involved whether it be in the planning stage, the technical challenges or the different people you meet along the way, there's always something to learn.

Weddings have become a sizable part of what I do and the smiles and appreciation from the happy couple helps to feed the desire and drive to plan, create and compose. All the time and hard work for me is worth it when you get the reaction a good image should invoke.
Reaction good or bad? its a response and that's always a good thing.

I would love to profess to be a master of photography, and will hopefully will achieve that one day (this life or the next) but in the mean time I am looking forward to a long life of learning.

This blog is a means to get my work out there, gain feed back (good or bad) and learn form the many who have already made the mistakes and to give a hand to those starting out.
